Ballet is more than just The Nutcracker at Christmas
time. Today’s dance and ballet features modern and contemporary
interpretations as well. From the classic and sublime Swan Lake
to the fluid moves of the Alvin Ailey dancers, you’ve got a
lot to chose from.
Wang Center for the Performing Arts
The newly renovated, glorious Wang Center for the Performing
Arts is home to the Boston Ballet. The Boston Ballet claims that
its version of The Nutcracker is the most well attended
production in the world. They also feature classic, contemporary,
modern, and avant-garde dance, as well as a variety of events and
galas throughout the year. The international troupe of dancers
represents over a dozen countries.

Dance Umbrella
From the funky moves of Mark Morris and Bill T. Jones, to tap,
hip-hop, and even acrobats, Dance Umbrella showcases international
dancers from all over the world at the Emerson Majestic Theater.
The focus of the Dance Umbrella is to feature contemporary,
culturally diverse dancers in a cozy, 976-seat setting. The
Emerson Majestic Theater is just that--majestic. Artist William de
Leftwich graces the lobby with six dreamy murals, and the heavenly
gold angels greet you at your seat. The Emerson has no beams, or
other means of support for the balconies, which means that you get
a great view no matter where you are seated.
